Happy Friday, Panthers!
This has been a busy and exciting week at Langston Hughes Middle School. On Tuesday, we celebrated our soon-to-be ninth graders at an amazing Moving-On Celebration. Thank you to our families for your tremendous support and for helping make the evening such a success!
Thursday evening, we honored our 7th-grade students at our Awards Ceremony. Students were recognized as either Most Outstanding or Most Improved by their teachers. The Most Outstanding Award recognizes students who consistently demonstrated exceptional achievement, leadership, and excellence throughout the school year. The Most Improved Award celebrates students whose dedication, perseverance, and commitment to growth resulted in remarkable academic progress and achievement.
This evening, we look forward to our 8th-Grade Dance/Formal, “Shine Bright Like a Diamond.” Thank you to the parents who supported our wish list and volunteered to help make this event possible. Our Panthers have worked hard and deserve a memorable celebration!
As we approach the final (3) days of the school year, please remember that Wednesday, June 17, 2026, is the last day of school. Students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m., and lunch will be served. If your child has medication in the clinic, please make arrangements to pick it up before or the last day of school. Any medication not collected will be discarded in accordance with school procedures. Medication cannot be transported on a student’s person and must be picked up by a parent or guardian.
Final report cards and fourth-quarter honor roll certificates will be mailed home.
Thank you for your continued partnership, support, and investment in our school community. Together, we have made this an outstanding school year. We wish all of our Panther families a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer!

STUDENT SERVICES
Course Request Changes- Rising 8th Graders Only
If you would like to request a change to your child’s 26-27 LHMS course selections, complete this LHMS Course Request Change form by today, Friday, June 12. The form will close at midnight and no further changes will be made after that time. This date has been extended to allow families to review their child’s 25-26 SOL scores and make changes based on that data. Elective course requests are not guaranteed, as they are dependent on availability. You may view your child’s current 26-27 course requests in ParentVUE under the ‘Course Request’ tab. Please contact your child’s LHMS counselor with any questions.
Expunging High School Courses Taken in Middle School
Middle school students taking high school courses have the option to expunge their grade. This process removes the grade from their high school transcript. Once deleted, the course cannot be reinstated. You can learn more about the expunge process and download the form here: FCPS Expunge Process. Your child can also get a paper copy of the form from their LHMS counselor or the main office. To expunge a grade, please complete the Request to Expunge a High School Course Take in Middle School form, and return it to your child’s LHMS school counselor by the last day of school.
Social Emotional Learning with Second Step
In this week’s lesson, students learned how to build confidence by getting encouragement from others and by reflecting on past experiences. Family conversation starter: Tell your child about a time when you got encouragement from someone and it helped you build confidence. Ask your child to describe one of the ways they’ve learned to build confidence.
