WWES Friday Updates 6/12/2026

June 12, 2026

Dear Waynewood Owls,

As we head into the absolute final stretch of the school year, my heart is incredibly full. Walking through the hallways this week, the energy, joy, and pride radiating from our students have been a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. We have just three more days of school left, and we are going to make every single second count!

We have been bursting with activity over the past few days, celebrating milestones big and small across all grade levels. Our incredible 6th graders had their last elementary school field trip to James Madison’s Montpelier, immersing themselves in history. Later in the week, we officially celebrated their journey at the 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony. It seems like just yesterday our 6th graders were walking into kindergarten.  We are immensely proud of them and know they are 100% ready to spread their wings and conquer middle school. Once an Owl, always an Owl!

Meanwhile, our kindergarteners blew us all away with their insect and animal dioramas. The detail and effort they put into their projects showed just how much our youngest learners have grown this year. Additionally, kindergarten, 3rd, and 4th grades had their end-of-year class parties—full of laughter, treats, and sweet memories. We also successfully conducted our final fire drill of the year, and true to form, our students were focused, safe, and efficient.

Looking forward, next week is officially the last week of school. Please keep in mind that the final day of school is Wednesday, June 17, and it will be a 2-hour early release day. Please ensure you have childcare and transportation arrangements lined up for the earlier dismissal.

To send our students off with a smile, next week is also Spirit Week, alongside a special schoolwide celebration. On Monday, we kick things off with Waynewood Gear Day, so please show your school pride by wearing your favorite Owls spirit wear or school colors. Tuesday is Dress Like Your Future Self Day, and we cannot wait to see our Owls' big dreams on display, whether they dress as a doctor, an astronaut, or an artist. Tuesday will also feature our schoolwide movie celebration where students will enjoy a screening of The Tale of Despereaux. Finally, Wednesday is Summer Vibes Day, so bring on the sunglasses, tropical prints, and bright colors as we welcome vacation!

Let’s finish this year strong, safe, and filled with joy. Have a wonderful, restful weekend, and we will see our Owls on Monday for our final three days together!

Sincerely,

Katie Cachine, Principal

Alyssa Bonner, Assistant Principal

Spotlight: Sixth Grade Mural

6th Grade Students Paint a Mural

Each year our sixth graders paint a mural.  They design and paint the mural themselves(with the help and guidance of our amazing art teachers).  It is a great way for students to leave their (colorful) mark on Waynewood!  This year's mural is near the courtyard.

Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.

Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families

Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.
