Dear Panther Family,

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Celebration of Learning. It was incredible to see our hallways filled with so many artifacts, photos and evidence of student learning. Students were so proud to show their families their work. Your presence and support mean the world to our staff and students.

Walking through the hallways last night at the event, we were reminded once again of how hard our students have worked this year. We are immensely proud of their creativity, perseverance, and all the amazing accomplishments. Way to go, Panthers!

As we head into the final days of the school year, we have some major milestones to celebrate. Please keep an eye out for final details regarding our upcoming promotions next week:

  • Kindergarten Promotion, June 16 at 9:30am: Celebrating our youngest learners as they take their next big step!

  • 6th Grade Promotion, June 16 at 6:00pm: Wishing our oldest students the very best as they prepare to head off to middle school.

Thank you for partnering with us to make this year so special. Let’s finish this week strong!

Sincerely,

Gina O'Neal, Principal

Christine Berry, Assistant Principal

Kevin Heron, Assistant Principal

Early Release Wednesdays for 2026-27

FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year. The number of days has been reduced from eight to four.

Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.

Please view the dates for our school’s early release Wednesdays below:

  • October 21

  • December 2

  • February 10

  • May 5

Visit the FCPS website for more information about early release Wednesdays.

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.

Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families

Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE

Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. It is available online and as a mobile app for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up to date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View additional details about ParentVUE.

Activate Your ParentVUE Account to Stay Connected

On Wednesday, July 29, FCPS families who haven't activated their ParentVUE account will receive an email with the subject “Fairfax County Public Schools ParentVUE Activation Letter.”

The email will include instructions to activate a ParentVUE account. If you don’t have an account and don’t receive the email, please check your spam folder or open a Parent Support Request. After July 29, families may also contact Mt Vernon Woods office and ask to speak with Rich Freeman to request a printed activation letter or a new activation key, if needed.

All families are encouraged to activate their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they receive immediate access to important student information and school communications.

For assistance activating your account, please contact our front office. For technical support, create a Parent Support Request.

Fairfax County Public Library summer reading adventure: Unearth a Story.

Mt. Vernon Woods Library was very excited to host a librarian from Fairfax County Public Library on June 5 to tell us about the Fairfax County Public Library summer reading adventure: Unearth a Story. Reading for pleasure is great for kids in many ways including keeping up their reading skills over the summer and helping them succeed in school.

The Summer Reading Adventure is as easy as 1-2-3!

  • Beginning June 10, go to a local library branch and pick up a paper reading log or visit fairfaxcounty.beanstack.org and pre-register for the Summer Reading Adventure..
  • Depending on your age, earn ten or fifteen virtual badges by reading or listening to books, reading for 20 or 30 minutes, completing activities or a combination of all three.
  • Once you have met the reading goals for your age/grade, visit your local library branch and receive prizes for finishing the program!

LGBTQIA+

In the month of June, we recognize the resilience and determination of the many individuals who are fighting to live freely and authentically. We stand with those facing an ongoing struggle against discrimination and injustice. This Pride Month, we reaffirm and uphold the dignity of LGBTQIA+ people.
