Greetings Key Families!
It is hard to believe that we have reached the last Friday of the 2025-26 school year! This year has been an outstanding one, with so much to celebrate and be proud of in terms of our students accomplishments. In the classroom, on the athletic fields, on our performance stages, and in our extracurricular programming, our students have made new friends, explored new hobbies, and mastered new skills. As the school year winds down, I’m sure you are reflecting on everything your child experienced and achieved this year. You should be very proud of your student – we certainly are!
Next week we have a number of things going on in our last few days. Monday, our 8th graders will walk to Lewis HS for a tour and an orientation, Tuesday is the last regular instructional day, and Wednesday is our end of year field day and student celebration. Please make sure your student attends every day so they can enjoy all the fun we have in store these last few days.
Finally, we will continue to collect student laptops through the last day of school. Please take this weekend to look for any laptops, charging cables, and laptop cases that students may have left behind – we did have a number of missing items during our collection on Thursday and Friday. If you plan to return any items after Wednesday, please drop them off in the main office with a label including the student’s name and FCPS ID number. Thank you for your assistance in this process!
We hope you have had a positive year at Key MS. We are excited for a positive end of the school year!
Sincerely,
Drew Campbell

Laptop and Charger Return
If you need to return your laptop, charger, or any missing device, please bring it Monday or Tuesday to lunch. Mr. Litherland will be located right outside of the cafeteria during all lunches Monday or Tuesday.
Wednesday is the final day for collection, Mr. Litherland will be in the main hallway all day 6/17 to collect any missing devices.
If you drop off items to the main office, it must be labeled with your student ID and preferably full name as well for receiving credit. Be sure to make sure its taped and secured to the item, if it falls off, it’s hard to account for who this belongs to.

Cell Phone Policy - High School
Important Cellphone Update for Rising Ninth Graders: New Bell-to-Bell Policy Starts July 1
Under a new Virginia cellphone law (SB108) and the updated FCPS Cellphone Policy, high school students at FCPS will no longer be able to use cellphones and other smart devices during lunch time, starting July 1. This includes watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other items connected to the internet.
During the school day, including during lunch time, high school students will have to keep cellphones and other smart devices off and stored in a locker, backpack, pouch, purse, etc. This policy does not apply to school-issued devices. Visit the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage for more information.
After School Program
FCPS Parent/Guardian Survey
The Middle School After-School Program office is conducting a survey of parents/ guardians to assess the quality and impact of the program. Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.
Participating in the survey is voluntary. Individual responses will be kept confidential, and responses will be summarized at the school and division level.
The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data
Thank you for considering completing the survey and for your support of the MS after-school program. This survey will be open from June 8, 2026 through June 12, 2026.

Testing Results
Student Testing Results Coming Soon
Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website.
Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families.
Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Please contact our front office with any testing questions or for additional information about how our school and teachers use test results to support student success.

Rising 9th Grade Visit to Lewis HS
We are excited to celebrate our 8th graders' upcoming transition and help guide them as they take their next big stride in their academic journey! On Monday, June 15, our future 9th graders will be heading over to Lewis High School to get a firsthand look at this exciting next step.
This year we will be walking to Lewis High School as a group. Because we will be navigating the neighborhood as an entire grade level, all 8th-grade teachers will be walking alongside the students to keep the trip safe, organized, and running smoothly. As you help your student prepare, please ensure they wear comfortable walking shoes and dresses appropriately for the weather that day.
A completed permission slip is required for students to participate. Permission slips were sent home with students this week. Please review, sign, and have your student return the slip as soon as possible so we can ensure they can participate in this milestone event. If your student needs another copy of the permission slip, please have them contact their counselor.
If you have any questions about this event, please contact Jane Flegal, jcflegal@fcps.edu.
We look forward to this great experience for our 8th graders!
Family Vision Group Representative Opportunity
Key Middle School is seeking a parent or guardian representative to participate in the FCPS Family Vision Group (FVG), a district-level community engagement group that brings together families and school leaders to discuss initiatives, share feedback, and strengthen family-school partnerships across Fairfax County Public Schools.
Representatives serve as a voice for Key Middle School families and help share family perspectives in division-wide conversations. The commitment includes attending approximately six meetings per year, which are typically held in person from 6:00–7:30 p.m. on weekday evenings, location TBD.
If you would like to learn more about this opportunity or are interested in serving as a representative, please contact Deborah Vel at dsvel@fcps.edu.
We appreciate your partnership and your willingness to support the Key Middle School community.
