Hey, just got back from that hiking trip I was telling you about. The weather was absolutely perfect, not a single cloud in the sky for the first three days. We did the Cascade Trail, which was surprisingly clear of other people. I experimented with a new lightweight camping setup, and it worked out great until the last night when a raccoon decided to investigate my food bag. No real damage, just a bit of a heart attack! The stars up there were incredible, completely unobstructed by city lights. I already booked the campsite for next month. Let me know if you want to join. We could tackle the North Ridge route. Anyway, hope you're having a good week too. Oh, I also finished that book you lent me. Took a while to get into it, but the second half was brilliant. The character development was really nuanced, especially the way the author handled the themes of identity and belonging. I have a ton of questions for you about the ending. Let me know when you're free to grab coffee.

Quick update on the gardening project. The tomato plants are going crazy, I've already had to give away a bunch to the neighbors. The basil and rosemary are doing well too. I tried that new pest control method we talked about, the one with the neem oil and soap spray. Seems to be working for now. The rose bushes had a bit of an issue with black spot, but I pruned them back and applied a fungicide. Hopefully, they bounce back for the late summer bloom. On a completely different note, I adopted a rescue cat last week. He is a timid little guy, mostly black with a tiny white patch on his chest. He's slowly coming out of his shell. Spent most of the first few days under the couch, but now he ventures out to explore at night. Caught him playing with a dustball this morning. It's amazing how much personality he is already showing. I think he is going to fit in perfectly.
