I think Saturday afternoon around 2 would work well for the gathering. That gives everyone time to run errands in the morning and still have the afternoon open. I can bring the potato salad and a couple of side dishes. Let me know if you need me to grab any extra chairs or tables since I have folding ones in the garage. The weather should be nice so we can set up outside. I will text the group to confirm headcount by Friday so we know how much food to prepare. The kids can play in the backyard while the adults relax. I figure we can keep things casual and let everyone just enjoy the afternoon without too much scheduling. Let me know if you think we should plan any activities or just let the day unfold naturally. I will bring some outdoor games just in case anyone wants to play. The grill should be ready by the time everyone arrives.

I also wanted to mention that Sarah offered to handle desserts and drinks so that should be sorted. We have about 12 people confirmed so far but I expect a few more to respond. Traffic might be a bit heavy heading your way so I will plan to leave a little early to avoid any delays.

I checked on the seedlings this morning and they are looking healthier than last week. The new soil mix seems to be making a real difference in how they are growing. I think the raised beds are warming up nicely now that we are getting more direct sun during the day. You were right about the drainage issue with the clay soil we have here in this part of town. Adding the extra compost really helped loosen things up and allowed the roots to spread better than before. I plan to transplant the peppers this weekend if the weather forecast holds steady. Let me know if you want to see how I set up the drip irrigation system since you mentioned watering was taking too long with the hose. It was fairly simple to install and has saved me a lot of time each evening after work. The plants seem to prefer the steady moisture rather than the heavy soakings I was doing before when I used the sprinkler. I also added some mulch around the tomatoes to help retain moisture during the warmer afternoons.

The variety you suggested for the carrots is doing much better than the standard ones I tried last season. I think the key was preparing the soil deeper so the roots could grow straight down without hitting compacted layers. I will save some seeds from this harvest if you want to try them in your garden next spring. The forecast looks good for the next couple weeks so I expect steady growth across the whole bed.
