Thanks for asking about the garden layout changes. I decided to move the raised beds to the south side of the yard where they get more consistent sunlight throughout the day. The old spot near the fence was shaded by the maple tree for nearly half the afternoon, and the tomatoes really struggled last season. I rebuilt three beds using cedar this time, each about four feet by eight feet, and added a drip irrigation system running off a timer so watering stays consistent even when work gets busy. The soil mix I settled on is equal parts topsoil, compost, and coarse sand with a bit of worm castings mixed in. I planted the cool-weather crops a few weeks ago and they are coming along nicely

The peppers and eggplants will go in after the last expected frost date passes. I also put in a small herb spiral near the kitchen door with rosemary, thyme, oregano, and chives which should be convenient for cooking. Still deciding whether to trellis the cucumbers vertically or let them sprawl this year. If the weather stays steady I think it will be a productive season without too much extra maintenance required

I wanted to follow up on your question about the deck staining project. I went with a semi-transparent oil-based stain in a cedar tone and applied it with a pump sprayer followed by back-brushing to work it into the grain. The deck is about 400 square feet and it took me roughly six hours over two afternoons to complete both coats. I made sure the wood was completely dry and gave it a light sanding with 80-grit paper before starting

One thing I learned is to keep a wet edge while rolling so you do not get lap marks as the stain dries. The temperature was around seventy degrees with low humidity which seemed ideal for even drying. I plan to reapply a maintenance coat every couple of years to keep it looking fresh. The color turned out slightly warmer than the sample chip but it blends nicely with the cedar siding. Let me know if you want the product name I used or any other specifics about the prep work
