I think the best approach for Saturday is to meet around 11 at the farmer's market on Elm Street. They usually have the best selection of early tomatoes and fresh basil around that time. I went last weekend and picked up some lovely heirloom varieties along with a bunch of thyme and rosemary. The weather should be nice so we can grab coffee afterward at that new place on the corner. Let me know if that timing works for you or if you would prefer later in the afternoon. I also need to stop by the hardware store to pick up some potting soil for the raised beds I am building out back. If we finish at the market early enough maybe we could swing by together. They have a good selection of organic seedlings this year and I want to get a few pepper plants started. Let me know what you think about the plan.

I finally got around to trying that sourdough recipe you sent me a few weeks back. The starter took about ten days to become active enough to use but once it got going it doubled in size within four hours. I baked two loaves on Sunday morning and the crumb had those lovely irregular holes that you see in bakery bread. The crust came out a deep amber color thanks to the steam I added in the first fifteen minutes. One thing I noticed was that the dough felt a bit sticky during the shaping phase so I think next time I will reduce the hydration by about five percent. I used bread flour from that mill on Main Street and it really made a difference in the structure. Let me know if you want me to save you a slice or if you would rather try baking together sometime next month.
