1. 2023 Individual Income Tax Returns Line-Item Estimates (Publication 4801)
This annual publication provides estimates of the frequencies and amounts of the entries on the lines of the forms and schedules as shown in the respective Individual Income Tax Returns Tables and Complete Report (Publication 1304) weighted file, which is now available on SOI’s Tax Stats webpage. The counts and dollar amounts are based on returns filed in processing year 2024 that were statistically sampled and then weighted to estimate the entire tax year 2023 filing population. Data are collected from those who filed a 2023 U.S. Individual Income Tax Return (Form 1040). SOI collects these data as part of its Individual Income Tax Return (Form 1040) Statistics program, Individual Income Tax Returns, Line-Item Estimates.

2. Individual Retirement Arrangements, Tax Years 2022 and 2023
Data on Individual Retirement Arrangements (IRAs) for Tax Years 2022 and 2023 using a revised methodology are now available on SOI's Tax Stats webpage. These annual statistics on types of IRA plans are based on information collected from matched samples of Forms 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns, Forms W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, Forms 1099-R, Distributions from Pensions, Annuities, Retirement or Profit-Sharing Plans, IRAs, Insurance Contracts, etc., and Forms 5498, IRA Contribution. Although estimates for Tax Year 2022 were also previously released under the former methodology, Tax Year 2023 and later years will be released using only the new methodology.
