June 2026

Work Zone Vision Zero

No one wants a vehicle speeding by while they're at work. Slow down in work zones! Construction season is here! Work zones involve large equipment, traffic pattern changes, lane closures, uneven pavement, variable speed limits, and most importantly workers. When driving near a work zone, lookout for highway workers, adhere to all signage, and drive distraction free. Click here to learn more about work zone safety.

2026-2030 Vision Zero Final Action Plan

The finalized 2026 Action Plan Update is now live on the Vision Zero website! We would like to thank everyone who took the time to share feedback and help shape program’s vision for the next five years. View the Phase 2 Public Engagement executive summary or full report to learn how we incorporated community feedback from the April-May 2026 input period.

The Action Plan outlines action items that will move us toward our goal of eliminating severe and fatal crashes by 2030.

Below is a tentative schedule outlining the next steps toward adoption of the Action plan by the County Board. Stay tuned for updates in the newsletter.

Vision Zero Begins E-Moto Education Efforts

bluesfest

The Vision Zero team attended the Columbia Pike Blues Festival this past Saturday, June 13. The team handed out snacks featuring “Snack Facts” stickers to remind bicyclists, scooters, and drivers to slow down while approaching intersections and driveways.

The team also soft launched an upcoming behavior campaign theme using an interactive activity inviting participants to spot the difference between e-bikes or e-motos. E-bikes have less powerful engines and only go up to 28mph, while e-motos can go up to 60mph. It’s important to research devices closely before buying, especially if it’s for a child or teen!

Arlington County Board seeks Public Input on Legislative Package

The Arlington County Board is inviting advanced resident input to inform the creation of next year’s county legislative package. Residents interested in providing their thoughts are encouraged to take 3 to 5 minutes to complete this feedback form

Every year, Arlington County creates a legislative package that outlines the County’s legislative values, initiatives, and positions for the Virginia General Assembly Session. The 2027 General Assembly session begins on January 13, 2027, and is scheduled to adjourn in early March. It is the 45-day “short” session. Beginning in January, the General Assembly will consider a myriad of issues and will include the creation of a new two-year budget for the Commonwealth. This is a great opportunity to advocate for legislative improvements that advance transportation safety.

This feedback form closes at the end of the day on July 31st, 2026. All questions should be directed toward the County Board Office at 703-228-3130 or countyboard@arlingtonva.us
