Learn about reduced-cost transportation programs, financial assistance options, housing assistance, mental health services, and emergency resources. There will even be a limited quantity of $50 transportation gift cards for qualifying attendees!

Protecting Older Adults Is Everyone's Job
June is Elder Justice Awareness Month. Older adults can be hurt in many ways, including money scams, neglect, and emotional abuse. This can happen at home, in the community, and online.
You can help by staying connected, checking in on older adults, and talking openly about scams. Learn how you can help keep the older adults in your life safe.

Chairman McKay's Champion: Eddy Sandoval
Eddy Sandoval is a Special Olympics Virginia athlete from Chantilly who has been competing in track and field since 2017. He specializes in the pentathlon as part of the Electric Track Team and has spent years training and developing his skills through consistent dedication to his sport.
Eddy is representing Virginia at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, taking place June 20–26, 2026. This will be his first time competing at the national level, and he is looking forward to the opportunity to showcase his hard work on a larger stage this June.
Outside of athletics, Eddy works at UPS and stays engaged in community advocacy through The Arc of Northern Virginia and the Endependence Center of Northern Virginia. He enjoys fitness, video games, and spending time with friends.
We extend our best wishes to Eddy and all Team USA athletes. Their dedication, perseverance, and hard work reflect the true spirit of the Special Olympics movement.

 Opportunity to Advocate for People with Physical and Sensory Disabilities
You can help advocate for people with physical and sensory disabilities by joining the Fairfax Area Disability Services Board (FA-DSB), a group of 15 volunteers who work to improve local services. If you’ve lived with disabilities or have experience using social services, your insight is invaluable for creating fairer, more effective programs. You’re welcome to apply if you receive public assistance like SNAP or Medicaid, but you cannot work for the Department of Family Services. Contact your local Board of Supervisors representative to apply.
