NEW! Atlantic Neptune nautical atlases

Dive into the Atlantic Neptune nautical atlases - the sixth and final American Revolution In Context campaign! These beautifully illustrated volumes depict the most detailed surveys of North American coastal areas and harbors in the 18th century, from Cape Breton in Nova Scotia all the way south to the West Indies. The Atlantic Neptune was heavily used by British warships during the American Revolutionary War.

We're especially excited about this campaign because it is the first time we've transcribed a collection from the Library's Geography and Map Reading Room. Check out their post about the collection and campaign on the Library's Worlds Revealed blog.

Before you dive in, please read the special transcription instructions available on the campaign landing page! We aren't asking you to transcribe map labels. Our goal is to capture significant amount of non-map text in the volumes, which includes captions, indexes, and tide tables. Check out the illustrated PDF instructions for more details.

Jump on in - the water's fine!

A reminder about our 2026 virtual orientation recording

The recording of our April orientation is now available on the Library of Congress YouTube channel. This video is a great resource for getting started or learning more about the impact of volunteer transcribing. Watch now!

Are you transcribing The American Revolution in Context?

We were inspired by a recent video of a transcribe-a-thon at Harding University in partnership with the Arkansas State Library. Volunteers gathered to transcribe The American Revolution in Context to celebrate the 250th birthday of America. Are you an 'American Revolution in Context' transcriber? Log into our discussion forum and let us know what you've found
