Summertime Buzz at Halley ES
We hope each of our Halley families enjoyed the long weekend to celebrate the 4th of July! Hopefully each of you had some fun in the sun...and the shade!
Our school has students in it once again as our preschoolers enjoy their summer session. Our amazing custodians are hard at work each day to ensure the building is ready for all of our Halley Hornets in August!
We hope our students in all grade levels are getting an opportunity to relax, have fun...and read! During the summer, remember to check out the Lorton Library (especially when the days are hot). Reading each day will help prevent the summer slide that so many students experience when having limited access to reading materials. The Lorton Library has a wide assortment of genres and titles for all ages.
Our Halley summer office hours are 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Please continue to read the newsletter in its entirety for summer announcements.
Stay cool!

Early Release Wednesdays for the 26-27 School Year & Attendance
FCPS will continue with limited early release Wednesdays for elementary schools during the 2026-27 school year. The number of days has been reduced from eight to four.
Early release Wednesdays provide elementary teachers with a dedicated block of time to prepare lessons, participate in professional development and training, and collaborate with their peers. A well-supported and continuously improving teaching staff leads to better educational outcomes for students.
Please view the dates for our school’s early release Wednesdays below:
- October 21st

Are you planning for travel during the 26-27 school year?
When planning for travel with your student, please adhere to the FCPS School Year Calendar. Long-term trips need to be planned around the extended breaks that are built into the calendar (i.e. Thanksgiving, Winter break, Spring break, and Summer break).
Please click HERE to reference the FCPS School Year Calendar.
Daily attendance is an expectation for the entire school year for all students within FCPS. Planned travel is not considered an excused absence within the division. When students are absent from school, they miss out on learning and fall behind!
Help us combat chronic absenteeism at Halley ES by ensuring your child is present at school each day.
