Good news! As a Veteran who gets care through the Cheyenne VA Health Care System, you can request testing to help identify the best medications and dosage for your unique biology.

VA now offers a no-cost pharmacogenomics (PGx) blood test to patients that uses information from YOUR genes to help find the right dose and medicine for you.

How can the results be beneficial for you?

• Help your provider find a medication that is safe for you
• Decrease side effects
• Reduce the trial-and-error medication process

Medications that can be impacted include:

• Antidepressants
• Pain medications
• Stomach medications
• Cholesterol and heart medications
• And many more

What do I need to know before testing?

• Testing is no-cost for Veterans who are candidates for PGx testing
• Pharmacogenomics is just one factor that may impact how you tolerate and/or respond to a medicine
• Other factors include your age, sex, race, ethnicity, and other medicines you may be taking
• Federal law protects patients from discrimination by insurance companies or employers based on testing results
• If you have had liver or certain bone marrow transplants, you are not a candidate for testing

Walk-In Lab

Once you have a PGx lab order from your provider, you can walk into our VA laboratory for your PGx blood draw without an appointment—saving you time and getting you back to your day sooner. Please note the check-in procedures differ for each location.
