Barry Paul Dowe, 71, of Lindenhurst, Illinois, passed away on June 27, 2026, after a brief illness.
Having spent much of his life in the area, Barry couldn't go anywhere without running into someone he knew. Some knew Barry from Boy Scouts in Waukegan, IL, where he reached the rank of Eagle Scout. Once, during a survival camping trip, Scout Barry supposedly caught his dinner by throwing a pocket knife at a rabbit, pinning it to a log, from a distance that changed every time he told the story.
Many more knew Barry from his 28 years as professional photographer in Lake Villa, IL, where he immortalized generations of treasured family memories. Others may have flown with Barry when he held his private pilot's license; he was always looking for people to take for a spin! And it's impossible to count how many family dinners he influenced during his 18 years as a chef instructor at Lake County Tech Campus and Grayslake North High School, where he taught the next generation of young chefs how to cook. Even more people knew him from his role at Prince of Prince Parish, where he served as the Head Usher for the 9:30 AM Sunday service and as a member of the Knights of Columbus.
But those who knew him best knew him from Christmas mornings, cups of tea, and sunny Sunday afternoons on the patio. They knew him from countless family dinners, raucous card games, and hours spent in his garage workshop. They knew where he liked to hide candy and patiently showed him over and over how to use his cell phone. The people who will miss Barry most of all are his wife of 46 years, Kathy, daughter Allison, daughter-in-law Jaimee, and his son David. To them, he provided a lifetime of memories and love
