Hello, health reporter Lauren Roberts here.
Richard Scolyer, a pioneer of cancer research, has been remembered for his "truly remarkable life" in a state memorial service this week.
In his open letter to all Australians, published after his death, Professor Scolyer wrote of the pride he felt taking part in, and advocating for, clinical trials.
"To all cancer patients, I encourage you to consider enrolling in research and clinical trials, if on offer," he wrote.
But what exactly is it like to participate?
I spoke to Tom Valenta, who has enrolled in three clinical trials since 2017, about his experience and why he wouldn't hesitate to take part in another.
Also this week, a new report by the Grattan Institute says the Pharmacy Guild of Australia is bringing in massive profits at the expense of patients.
The guild refutes these claims, saying it has a track record of championing affordable medicine, and the report ignores realities.
Plus, a national sperm donation shortage is leading those desperate to find a way to conceive down some expensive and potentially dangerous paths.
