Person washing apple next to fruit and veggie wash

A first line of defense

I picked up a bottle of this $15 fruit and veggie wash a few months ago from my favorite health food store in Manhattan and now, I’m using it more than ever thanks to the cyclosporiasis outbreak. There are two ways I use it, depending on the amount of produce I’m dealing with. This past weekend, I diluted a small amount in a bowl of water and soaked a large bunch of grapes for a few minutes before rinsing with cold water in a colander. For small pieces of fruit or veggies—like an apple or celery stalk—I’ll spray all over it, rub it in with my fingers for about a minute and then rinse off. One of the things I like most about this spray is that it doesn’t leave a weird aftertaste on my produce.
