Retain Your Leadership Voice When Using AI

To maximize AI’s potential while ensuring you’re not losing the judgement, voice, and presence that makes your leadership style unique, communicate with words that carry your humanity. To use AI in this type of leader-shaped work, take the following three steps:

Start with your intention. Before using AI, decide what you want your audience to understand, feel, or do. Write down three to five points you need to convey, grounded in your own reading of the situation.

Use AI to sharpen your thinking. Ask AI to organize, challenge, or sharpen those points. Use it to create an outline and identify gaps rather than generate the final message in your voice.

Write the first draft yourself. Turn the outline into your own words. Then read the draft aloud. Flag anything you wouldn’t naturally say, anything that sounds generic, or anything that minimizes the seriousness of the moment. Rewrite those sections until the message sounds like you.
