Back-to-School Means Back to Basics

Arlington Public School classes resume Monday, August 31. Expect an increase in children walking, bicycling, and riding the bus throughout Arlington.

Your back-to-school assignment

Whether you drive, bike, or walk, safety is a group project and we all have the same assignment.

  • Slow down to give yourself time to look around and be aware of your surroundings
  • Look all around you - ahead, to the sides, and behind you - to be aware of other people on the road or sidewalks
  • Make choices that are safe for you and others when you drive, cross the street, or ride your bike

Transportation safety is a team effort and it takes all of us working together and following the rules of the road to keep our community safe.

Chat with a Planner? Sign me up!

Over the past few weeks, the project team for the draft Multimodal Transportation Plan has been holding events where community members ask questions and learn more about the plan that will guide transportation investments in Arlington for the next 20 years.

Here's what people had to say:

  • "I really appreciated being able to talk about the draft, what choices and tradeoffs there are. I really learned a lot."
  • "I liked that the draft plan recognizes what was not in the old plan, which had separate elements with all pie in the sky ideas. This [the draft plan] puts them together and talks about how they'll work."
  • "I grew up here, and have watched transportation go from scary to not so scary, and I like learning how the new plan will keep that going."

We want to hear from you... online or in person!

There's one last chance to talk with the project team about the draft of the Multimodal Transportation Plan and ask them your questions.

  • Wednesday, August 19, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Arlington Mill Community Center Room 132

This is your last in-person opportunity to help shape the plan before it is presented to the County Board. Share your feedback by August 23 and learn more at arlingtonva.us/TransportationFuture
