Yesterday I said I'd be sending you the stuff I'd want you to already know before we ever started working together because our coaching roster is full.

Here's the first one for you, A.

Last night was my dad's 60th. We had Greek. This was my plate:

This morning, the scale was up a pound and change.

A few years ago, that dinner would have completely derailed my fitness momentum.

I'd have worried about what was on the menu. Showed up starving to a table covered in pita. Then I'd have blasted the meal while feeling guilty about eating.

Sitting at my own dad's birthday worrying about calories instead of talking to him.

And the next morning the extra pound would have freaked me out. I'd have skipped breakfast, added cardio, and written off the week.

Not this time.

It's easier now. Fewer rules. When most days I'm dialed in, one dinner isn't a threat.

The dinner was never the problem. The overcompensation was.

What I did last night required zero discipline. I ate slow. Put the fork down between bites. Talked to people. Stopped when I was satisfied instead of stuffed.

That last one only works if you're going slow enough to notice. Eat fast and you're well past the finish line before your body gets the message.

And I know that extra pound bump is not fat. It's food volume, sodium and water. It leaves on its own in a couple days.

So, try this at your next meal out.

Eat slower than the person across from you. Take a breath. Stop when you're satisfied, not stuffed.

Then weigh yourself the next morning as usual and do nothing about the number.

A flexible approach doesn't just make the process more enjoyable.

It's what takes you further than you've ever gone.

Doors to coaching are still shut until September 1st.

More coming in the meantime.
