The final days of testimony are expected this week in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.

The prosecution is calling rebuttal witnesses after the defense rested on Friday. Closing arguments could start as soon as Tuesday.

Prosecutors have had one rebuttal witness on the stand so far, and at least two more are expected. They’ve been called to help combat the final defense witness, Dr. Phillip Resnick. Resnick testified that he believes Clancy was living with bipolar disorder and was experiencing postpartum psychosis when she killed her three children and tried to take her own life three years ago.

A 21-year-old driver accused of killing a man and his daughter by crashing into their SUV at a stoplight in North Reading, Massachusetts, Saturday night, is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Matthew Sweeney, a Paxton resident, has been charged with felony motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence and operating to endanger, officials said. Sweeney is due in Woburn District Court Monday.

Paxton was speeding when he smashed into the SUV carrying the two on Route 28, causing it to burst into flames, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and North Reading police. First responders and a bystander tried to get the pair out of the burning vehicle after the crash was reported about 10:45 p.m. but they died at the scene.

Sen. Ed Markey is laying out his priorities as he asks Bay Staters for one final term.

“We just have to think big,” the Massachusetts Democrat said in an interview with NBC10 Boston.

A 50-year congressional veteran and Beacon Hill lawmaker before that, Markey hopes to spend six more years in the Senate even as questions surrounding age continue to come up.

The federal extortion trial for Suffolk County Sheriff Steven Tompkins, Boston’s sheriff, is scheduled to begin at Moakley Federal Court on Monday.

Tompkins, who has led the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department since 2013, was indicted on charges alleging that he extorted an executive at a Boston cannabis company so he could own stock in the business, then demanding money back when the investment didn’t pay off. He pleaded not guilty to the two extortion charges at his arraignment last year.

His attorney later moved to dismiss the federal extortion charges filed against him, claiming that Tompkins didn’t try to extort a cannabis executive as prosecutors allege. The motion was rejected.

A woman suspected of three separate arson attempts at a Springfield, Massachusetts, home was arrested on Friday after a police chase, officials said.

Aisha Cuffie had earlier in the day twice attempted to start a fire at a Villa Parkway home, one time dousing a person with gasoline, according to Springfield police.

The 41-year-old collided with two police cruisers before the chase ended, and when she was initially approached by officers, she had a knife in her hand. But Cuffie dropped the knife before being taken into custody, police said.
