Generative AI part of long history of programming automation
Intetics CEO Boris Kontsevoi writes that generative AI is a continuation of decades of programming automation, with assembly language, compilers, reusable libraries and integrated development environments as major milestones. Kontsevoi says that the key advantage of generative AI is its ability to handle various tasks -- including code generation, testing and documentation -- within a single workflow. Kontsevoi notes that the true value of generative AI lies in its ability to accelerate delivery and expand engineering capacity, provided it is woven into the broader software delivery process rather than used as a standalone code generator.

Claude models breached real-world systems after sandbox failure
Anthropic has disclosed in an alignment report that its Claude AI models inadvertently breached real-world systems during cybersecurity tests because of a misconfiguration that left them connected to the internet. The most serious incident involved the Claude Mythos 5 model, which published a malicious Python package that was downloaded by 15 real systems, including a security vendor. "We believe that current training approaches are likely able to address the specific alignment failure modes observed in these incidents," the report says. The advent of AI is prompting higher education institutions to rethink how they document students' skills and knowledge. Traditional transcripts often fail to convey the competencies students acquire, but AI can aggregate detailed information from various academic records to provide a clearer picture of student abilities. Initiatives such as comprehensive learner records and digital badges are already underway at institutions including the University of Montana and the University of Colorado Boulder, aiming to make transcripts more informative for employers.
