  Virginia Native American Festival
Saturday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Celebrate Virginia Native culture, history and living traditions at Riverbend Park in Great Falls. Meet members of the Pamunkey, Mattaponi, Upper Mattaponi and Chickahominy tribes. Spend the day experiencing dancing and drumming, Native food and craft vendors, traditional storytelling, demonstrations and more.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony (10:10 a.m.)
Join us for a remembrance ceremony to honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and all those affected by the attacks. The ceremony will take place at the county’s Public Safety Headquarters in Fairfax though the public is encouraged to watch the ceremony live online.

Tysons Library Friends Quarterly Book and Media Sale (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.)
Browse a large selection of books and media for all ages at Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library. Proceeds benefit the library and activities.
Chair and Standing Yoga (11 a.m. - noon)
Practice seated stretching, strengthening and safe movement at Dolley Madison Library in McLean. We'll progress to standing postures while using the chair for support.
Hands-Only CPR Class (2 - 3 p.m.)
Join Fire and Rescue for an interactive hands-only CPR class at Oakton Library. We'll cover how to recognize cardiac arrest, hands-on practice with chest compressions and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator.
Fungi and Friends (6 - 7 p.m.)
Scavenge the nooks and crannies at Burke Lake Park for fungi and friends to observe and learn about the roles they play in nature. Registration is $9.

Dog Daze (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.)
Come out to The Water Mine in Reston for a dogs-only swimming extravaganza. Whether your pooch prefers to frolic through the sprays or float in the water, Dog Daze is the perfect place to make more dog-loving friends, entertain the whole family and have a doggone good time.

September Foster Info Session (9:30 a.m.)
Learn about Animal Services' foster program at our Lorton campus. We'll cover how the program works, requirements to foster pets and the types of pets that need a foster.
Mini-Makers - Huichol Painting (11 a.m. - noon)
Join us to create a Huichol yarn painting as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Kings Park Library. All supplies will be provided.
Bug Bingo (1 - 2 p.m.)
Hike with a naturalist to learn about different insects’ behavior and habitats at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston. Fill out bingo sheets as you explore the park. Registration is $9.
Ice Cream at Historic Huntley (2 - 3 p.m.)
Make and enjoy hand-cranked ice cream at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria. Discover how the histories of ice cream and Huntley follow a similar path from elite luxury to family fare. Registration is $10.
Irish Music Performance with Thomas, Thomas, Egan and Finch (2 - 3:30 p.m.)
Take a musical trip across the Atlantic and enjoy a special afternoon of traditional Celtic dance music at Centreville Regional Library. Enjoy jigs, reels, hornpipes and slip jigs with award-winning vocals by Pat Egan.
Boardwalk Astronomy (8 - 10 p.m.)
Join a park naturalist as they take you on a tour of constellations, comets and other current events happening in the skies above at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria. Registration is $14.

African Americans' labor, experience and knowledge were crucial to 19th-century grist milling. Explore the Colvin Run Mill in Great Falls as you discuss the contributions of African American millers in the county.

Learn about the healing power of plants at Riverbend Park in Great Falls. Discover the herbal remedies and wild edibles of Virginia and how to gather these plants safely and sustainably. Registration is $14.
Coding Club (noon - 1 p.m.)
Learn how to code or advance your coding skills at Pohick Regional Library in Burke. Volunteers will help you learn, collaborate and play with the program Scratch.
Meditation in the Gardens (1 - 3 p.m.)
Enhance your connection with yourself, others and the world around you at Green Spring Gardens Park in Alexandria. This class combines guided reflection, emotional awareness practices and practical tools for mindful communication. End the program with a relaxing sound bath. Registration is $24.
Exploring our Historic Meeting House and Grounds (1 - 3 p.m.)
Explore the history of the free and enslaved African American members of the Baptist Meeting House at Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon. Learn the ways in which black congregants fought for greater freedoms within the church and how they formed their own community after emancipation.
