Messages from Mr. Morris
We’ve had a successful start to the school year and a great three weeks of school. As we are settling into our routines, I wanted to provide some important safety reminders for students and adults during arrival and dismissal times. We need your support and partnership ensuring safe school arrival and dismissal.
- Please, slow down, take your time and be alert at all times.
- Students and adults should always cross Riverside Road at the crosswalk. We are seeing many instances of students and families crossing Riverside Road at multiple locations creating unsafe conditions. Even if accompanied by an adult, the crosswalk should be used to cross Riverside Road.
- Many families are dropping off and picking up students on Riverside Road. This creates additional congestion and unsafe driving maneuvers (for instance, u-turning from one side of the street to the other side of the street). The “weaving-in-and-out-traffic” creates dangerous conditions for students and adults.
- This increase in pick-up and drop-off on Riverside Road is resulting in some complaints from some of our neighbors on Riverside Road. They are sharing that students are walking and riding their bikes in front yards. Additionally, private driveways are being blocked by cars where students are loading and unloading on Riverside Road.
- If you drop off or pick up your student in car, we kindly ask you use our Kiss and Ride line to maximize student safety.
- Students and families should never cross the bus lane.
- Students are not permitted to play on the playground or be on school campus unaccompanied by an adult prior to the start of school or following school dismissal. Students should go directly home and / or follow your family plan for after school. Patrols and siblings of patrols may arrive to school early.
- Adult supervision from Stratford Landing does not begin outside until 8:50 am.
- Students should not climb trees on school grounds.
- If your child bikes to school, please remind them that pedestrians have the right way, and they should always walk their bike on school grounds and wear a helmet. This includes scooters and skateboards. In many instances bikes are racing down the sidewalk causing students to scatter. Many bike riders seem to think pedestrians are supposed to get out of their way.
I appreciate everyone’s attention to these safety matters, and as always, I appreciate your partnership. With a very busy student arrival and dismissal at Stratford Landing, we all need to work together to ensure the safety of our students, staff and families. September 11 - National Day of Service
Today being the 25th anniversary of September 11, FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.
All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills. Middle and high school students can learn more about service learning by logging into their Naviance account to access x2VOL.
Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Friday, September 11. That day is an evening-only observance day. Important events will not be held after school.
Yom Kippur
Monday September 21, is a holiday and schools and offices will be closed. See the complete school year calendar.

A lot of great things are going on in the library like having our first student volunteers help out in the library. They were so helpful in getting the kindergarteners checked out. Also shout out to our adult volunteers, special shout out to Ms. Jane, for their help in getting the library ready to go.
This week we are going to focus on finding the right library book for you.

To maximize student safety, we want to remind families and emergency contacts that identification is required when checking out students during the school day.
While many of our staff members know members of our community, not all staff members are familiar with adults that pick students up from school. Additionally, substitute staff members may be on duty and monitoring student check outs. Those staff members may not be familiar with the adults checking students out of school.
This is a particularly important safety mechanism for our younger students and non-verbal students. Please be aware, whether you are a parent or an emergency contact, you will be asked to provide identification to check your child out of school.
Our Band and Strings enrollment for the 26-27 school year closed on Tuesday, September 8. We are no longer accepting Band and Strings enrollment forms for the school year.
We’re excited to share information about Twice-Exceptional (2e) Programming available within our school system. Twice-exceptional students demonstrate advanced abilities while also experiencing learning, attention, or other challenges that may require additional support.
Please view the attached flyer to learn more about 2e programming, available resources, and opportunities to support the unique strengths and needs of twice-exceptional learners. You can also visit the FCPS 2e webpage for additional information and resources.

Inova offers health care services and support for children and families, including help applying for or renewing Medicaid and FAMIS, primary care for children with Medicaid or no insurance, free virtual cooking classes, and care coordination for children with special health care needs.

Family Literacy Program
Free English Classes at West Potomac High School
Improve your English and learn how the school systems works to support your children's education. Your school aged children are also welcome! Classes begin Tuesday, September 22.

Volunteering at Stratford Landing Elementary!
We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit Volunteer FCPS, click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.
All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS.
As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.

Be sure to check the Stratford Landing PTA website to explore all of our exciting upcoming clubs. This season features a fantastic variety of activities, including Chess, STEM, Garden, Drama, Pokémon, Bloom Club, and Dungeons & Dragons, with full program descriptions and payment links available directly on the PTA website. SLES Military Parents' Coffee Meet-Up

Stratford Landing ES Movie Night
Friday, September 25th
Grab your blankets and lawn chairs for a fantastic evening under the stars at Stratford Landing Elementary School’s Movie Night on Friday, September 25th! We will be showing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! It’s the perfect opportunity to relax with neighbors, catch up with friends, and enjoy a fun-filled Friday night with the whole school community.
We’ll have Timber Pizza serving up fresh, delicious, hot pies to take care of dinner for the family. The SLES Fourth Grade will be offering candy, popcorn and drinks to earn funds for their upcoming field trip to Jamestown! Top off the night with a refreshing, icy snow cone from Kona Ice for a sweet weekend treat you won't want to miss! Field and Food Trucks/Concessions will open at 6:30pm. The movie starts at 7:15pm.
Dine Out for SLES at Panera

Need an excuse to go out to eat? The perfect reason is to help Stratford Landing Elementary School! During the ‘26-‘27 school year we will be conducting “Dine Outs with SLES” and “Dine Outs with SLES and the 6th Grade”! Check out slpta.org for more details!
The September “Dine out for SLES” will take place at Panera Bread (6670 Richmond Hwy) on Tuesday, September 22nd. Online Orders: use the code: FUND4U during the hours of 6AM-9PM and Panera will donate 25% of sales to the Stratford Landing PTA. In store orders: between 4pm-8pm, please present an electronic or printed copy of the SLES/Panera Fundraiser flyer to the cashier when ordering.
Dine Out for SLES at Five Guys
October 5th
The October “Dine Out for SLES and the 6th grade” will take place at Five Guys Restaurant (7622 Richmond Hwy) from 4-8pm on Monday, October 5th! Online orders: when checking out, please use the code: FGGIVESBACK. In store orders: please inform the cashier you are here for the Stratford Landing ES fundraiser. Five Guys will donate 20% of all sales that use the code or mention the fundraiser to the Stratford Landing ES 6th Grade Committee! Funds raised from “Dine Out for SLES and the 6th grade” will go towards helping the 6th grade raise money for the graduation activities planned for their final year at Stratford Landing Elementary School. Let’s come together, show them our support…and enjoy some yummy Five Guys!
