  Good evening, Herndon Elementary Families,
It has been another meaningful week at Herndon Elementary. Our students are continuing to build relationships, strengthen classroom routines, and engage in learning that helps them grow as readers, thinkers, leaders, and members of our school community.
This week, our staff participated in a Region 1 instructional learning walk focused on reading instruction in second- and third-grade classrooms. These visits allowed teachers, administrators, coaches, and regional leaders to notice bright spots, share effective practices, and identify next steps to strengthen student talk, academic language, comprehension, and student engagement.
We are also pleased to share our finalized tweaks to our administrative team’s grade-level assignments for the 2026–27 school year:
- Pre-K: Dr. Monika Vereb
- Kindergarten: Kelly Cosgrove
- First Grade: Kelly Cosgrove
- Second Grade: Dr. Lawrence Randolph
- Third Grade: Dr. Lawrence Randolph
- Fourth Grade: Sudie Vasquez
- Fifth Grade: Kelly Cosgrove
- Sixth Grade: Sudie Vasquez
Our administrators will partner closely with teachers, students, and families throughout the year to support strong communication, student success, and a positive school experience.
We were thrilled by the large turnout at our first general PTA meeting last night. Thank you to the families who joined us, shared ideas, and helped strengthen the partnership between our school and community. I look forward to seeing even more Bees and family members next Friday, September 18, for our PTA Movie Night featuring Zootopia 2 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. The event will take place on the back field, with the cafeteria available as an indoor location in the event of rain. Families are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. Popcorn and popsicles will be provided, and drinks will be available for $1.
Next Thursday, September 17, we look forward to welcoming families to Back-to-School Night from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Families will have opportunities to learn more about classroom experiences, connect with teachers, and hear important information about the year ahead. We will also offer pre-session conversations on timely topics for families starting at 5:15 PM.
For families who are unable to attend in person, Back-to-School Night will be livestreamed, and recordings will be posted in Schoology afterward. Transportation will also be available for families who need it. Please review the Back-to-School Night information included in this edition of News You Choose for the bus schedule and additional details.
Thank you to our families for your continued partnership and support. I am also grateful for our dedicated staff, who create welcoming, engaging learning experiences for our Bees each day. Together, we are building a school community grounded in belonging, growth, leadership, and joy.
With gratitude,
Dr. Monika Vereb
