Jesse Wegman is a senior fellow at the Brennan Center. He is both a lawyer and a journalist, and spent 12 years as a member of the New York Times Editorial Board before leaving for the Brennan Center in 2025. Jesse is a Pulitzer Prize winner and also a trained lawyer; he is a graduate of NYU’s law school.

Jesse joined us earlier this year to discuss his work at the Brennan Center. I’ve wanted to have him back ever since his earlier visit with us, so that we could discuss his books. His first book, Let the People Pick the President: The Case for Abolishing the Electoral College, is a fascinating read. He also has a new book that came out this past June, a look at the Constitution from the point of view of a Founder you may have never heard of: James Wilson. It’s titled The Lost Founder: James Wilson and the Forgotten Fight for a People’s Constitution.
I’m delighted that Jesse is joining us Thursday morning to celebrate Constitution Day with a discussion of Wilson, who has been called the most democratic of all of the Founding Fathers. But we also want to take your questions, so leave them in the chat and we’ll get to as many as we can:
