Michael McDonald Sworn in as Chairman of NEH

Following confirmation by the United States Senate in August, Michael McDonald was sworn in as the thirteenth Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

NEH Announces $41.4 Million for 81 Humanities Projects

NEH recently announced $41.4 million in grants for 81 humanities projects nationwide. Several grants will support scholarly, educational, and public programs designed to enhance ongoing national celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Regional and National Winners Announced for the NEH-Sponsored American Heroes Student Art Contest

NEH sponsored the Freedom 250 American Heroes Student Art Contest, which invited students to create artwork inspired by important figures in American history. The national contest was open to students in grades 3-12. Winners were announced at an awards ceremony on July 8, 2026.

Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mary Oliver is the subject of a new NEH-funded documentary Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World, which premiered on PBS in August.
