A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

Hello, Chantilly Families and Students,

It has been an outstanding week of learning at Chantilly HS. As we enter the second half of quarter one, I continue to be inspired by the active learning and teaching I see in classrooms each day. As our administrators and teacher leaders visit classrooms, we are focused on ensuring that students know what they are expected to learn, do, and how they will know if they are being successful. The engagement and work of the students in each class is critical and we check-in with the following questions related to content learning targets: Students are asked:

  • What are you learning today?
  • How is this task/activity supporting your learning?
  • How will you know if you are making progress?

We hosted FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Reid for classroom visits earlier this week. It was a pleasure to highlight the high levels of engagement and learning happening in our school. See her reflections posted on Instagram on two of the classrooms she visited above and below. I am so proud of our Charger faculty and students!

Blue Star Welcome Week

Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate, and schools are a primary way they get integrated into their new location. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.

We welcomed and celebrated our military-connected families at CHS with a Blue Star Fall Sweet Treats on Friday afternoon.  Thank you to all in our community who serve our country - we are so happy to have you as a part of the Charger family.

Custodian Appreciation Day - TODAY!

We are grateful to the Chantilly team of custodians who maintain our building and grounds and keep our school a safe and clean building for our students, staff and the community. Our staff and SGA celebrated our custodians today with lunch, sweet treats and cards.  Please thank a custodian the next time you visit us!

PSAT/SAT Day - Wednesday, October 7

  • All 9th grade students and 12th grade students who are not testing do not report to school!
  • 10 - 12th grade students who are testing must bring their fully charged FCPS issued device
  • Grab and Go lunch 12:25 p.m. - 12:55 p.m. Buses depart at 12:55 p.m.

Let’s make 2026–2027 an outstanding year as we Carry the CHARGE together. I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon.

Thanks,

Amy Goodloe, Ed.D., Principal

The College & Career Center is open and ready to help. Students are welcome to drop by anytime during the school day for quick questions, college application help, or career exploration.

2026-27 AP Test Registration, Opt-Out Timeline, and Fees

As part of the FCPS Approved Budget, the fees for the first six AP tests taken for courses in which students are enrolled for high school credit will be paid for by FCPS. Students taking AP tests without enrolling in the corresponding FCPS course are responsible for the test fee(s).

FCPS encourages all students to take AP tests for courses in which they are enrolled. However, students will have the opportunity to opt out of the test(s) by filling out an Opt Out form to be provided by Homeroom teachers. To assist in the decision-making process, students will be provided a report with their previous tests and current AP course enrollment.

Regardless of FCPS opt out decision, students enrolled in any AP course must register for their associated AP test(s) in AP Classroom by October 30th. Instructions for this process have been provided by classroom teachers. Students who register after this date may incur a $40 late registration fee. Students who do not register by March 12th will not be able to take the exam(s) and applicable assessed exam fees will not be refunded.

AP students must make Opt Out decisions by October 30th. Student accounts will be billed in December for tests that exceed the six FCPS-funded tests. The nonrefundable fees are $99 per AP exam.

Calendar Update and Family Feedback

Calendar Change: Eid al-Fitr

FCPS will mark the beginning of Eid al-Fitr with an evening-only observance day on Monday, March 8. There will be school on this day, but major school-sponsored events and activities (such as auditions or tryouts) will not take place.

Tuesday, March 9, will be a holiday for students and staff.

Wednesday, March 10, will be an observance day. There will be school on this day, but certain activities that cannot be made up (major tests, field trips, or mandatory events) will not take place.

A new school year calendar has been published, which includes this change. Please note that holidays and observances on the calendar may shift due to anticipated lunar sightings.

Safe Routes to School Parent and Caregiver Survey

As part of the Fairfax County School Board’s Annual School-Based Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are inviting parents and caregivers to share their experiences traveling to and from school.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss and ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.

Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.

PekarskyHSYLP

Senator Stella Pekarsky's 2027 Youth Leadership Program

High School Leadership Program

Virginia State Senator Stella Pekarsky is offering students the opportunity to participate in their High School Leadership Program this upcoming legislative session! This program gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to visit Richmond during the General Assembly's legislative session and learn about political leadership on the state level. Students will be able to observe committee hearings and floor debate, take a tour of the state capitol, participate in panels with lobbyists, advocates, and political leaders, as well meet lawmakers and their staff. This is a great opportunity for students considering a future career in government, politics, or law - but all are encouraged to apply.

The application is open to junior and senior students until Sunday, November 25 at 6:00 p.m. Spots are limited, so students should expect to be notified about their status following the closing of the application. Please note that priority will be given to students who reside within the 36th Senate District of Virginia.  This s the link to the application, including more details and program dates: Stella Pekarsky's 2027 High School Youth Leadership Program Application

Please note that this is a free program and students will be provided with transportation, lodging, and meals at no cost to them or their families.

Chantilly HS Back to School Night Resources - Visit our website!

We understand that not all of our Charger community could attend Back to School Night.  This annual event for parents to meet their student’s teachers and learn more about classroom expectations and procedures is an important one, so we also offer this virtual option this year.  Individual greetings and information from our school board members, counselors and teachers can be found on our website for your review.  Welcome to Chantilly!

Superintendent Community Conversations

Join Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid for a Community Conversation. Students, families, staff, and community members are invited to ask questions, share concerns, and discuss what matters most to them. Everyone is welcome! Click on the date to register for any of the following events:

College Fair and Postsecondary Virtual Night

Prepare for your child’s future at College Fair and Postsecondary Night. Approximately 200 colleges and universities will be represented, including two- and four-year schools and U.S. Service Academies.

The virtual postsecondary night event will be held on Monday, October 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. Both events will help students prepare for the next chapter of their educational journey. Learn more about the College Fair and postsecondary virtual event.

World Languages Credit by Exam

This year's World Languages Credit by Exam will be administered at each FCPS middle, high, and secondary school.

The World Languages Credit by Exam is an optional test for students in grades 7-12 who can speak and write/type proficiently in a language other than English. Based on the results of the exam, they can earn 1, 2, and/or 3 passing world language credits. If that language is one of the languages listed on the link below, consider registering for the World Languages Credit by Exam!

The 2026 World Languages Credit by Exam will be administered at Chantilly High School on November 11, 2026 at 8:15 a.m. in Charger Hall (formally Lecture Hall).

Registration opens on Tuesday, September 8, at 8:00 a.m, and closes on Friday, October 16, at 4:00 p.m. Late registrations will not be accepted.

Interested students must complete the Family Notification and Registration Form: https://www.fcps.edu/form/world-language-credit-exam-wlcbe-notification-and-registration-form (printed copies are also available from Ms. Taylor in Student Services).
