Data from 771 professionals surveyed by the Book Industry Study Group and BookNet Canada found publishers’ AI use at the organizational level jumped to 63%, from 48% in 2025, while individual use dropped from 46% in 2025 to 38% today. more

The Guild is asking publishers to more equitably divvy up Anthropic’s $1.5 billion settlement for certain claims, noting many houses will receive large payouts while most authors will get nothing more than “the ability to pay bills from the settlement.” more

On September 28, authors Jenan A. Matari (l.) and Nora Lester Murad filed a state lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles, alleging discrimination, violation of their right to free speech, and breach of contract, in response to the Los Angeles Public Library’s cancelation of a December 2025 event where they were to speak about their children’s books featuring Palestinian stories. more
