There was a lot of excitement in the salon this week as our level 1 Cosmetology students received and unboxed their salon kits. Packed with essential industry tools including shears, mannequin heads, styling combs, blow dryers, curling irons, and sectioning clips, these jam-packed kits contain the core equipment students will rely on throughout their two-year program as they train to earn their cosmetology license. To keep their tools safe and ready for hands-on practice, students are assigned individual school lockers to store their supplies between classes. Our future Professional Hairdressers had a lot of fun unpacking their kits, organizing their lockers, and trying out some of their new equipment.
Last week, students in our Korean classes learned about and celebrated Chuseok, Korea's autumn harvest festival, by making Chuseok-themed crafts and trying some traditional Chuseok snacks.
Two of our Carpentry 3 students, George N. and Aiden S., competed in the SkillsUSA Carpentry competition this week at the State Fair of Virginia. We are so proud to share that they won 6th place out of 16 teams competing. Congratulations, George and Aiden!
Our Veterinary Science students are getting ready to welcome their first furry clients of the school year next week as they begin their grooming services. This week, they practiced a variety of competencies to ensure that they are prepared to safely handle the dogs they see next week.
PT/OT 2 students practiced some clinical skills this week including assessing the function and integrity of the knee joint.
Medical Assistant students practiced donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE) this week.
Students in our Exploring Health Sciences classes earned their Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications through the American Heart Association this week. The BLS certification trains individuals in CPR and AED administration for adults, children, and infants.
