Principal's Note

Dear Lewis families,

It was another great week to be a Lancer! Our students had some incredible opportunities to learn, lead, and represent Lewis beyond the classroom. Two of our students joined me for lunch with Congressman Don Beyer and a tour of the U.S. Capitol last Friday, providing a unique opportunity to connect with civic leadership firsthand.

We also welcomed Dr. Michelle Reid, FCPS Superintendent, to Lewis this week. Our student leaders had the opportunity to share what makes them proud of our school, along with projects they are leading - from our food pantry partnership with World Central Kitchen to voter registration efforts.

Our Leadership Lab students continued building real-world skills through interviews with community mentors, making connections and learning from professionals who are investing in their growth.

In case you missed it, one of our students, Lucas, was recently selected as a Washington Commanders Latino Youth Honors recipient! The NFL initiative recognizes outstanding Latino high school student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, and community leadership. Lucas is a proud Salvadoran American, varsity football starting center, multi-sport athlete, National Honor Society member, SGA President, and Class of 2027 Secretary. His football coach, Coach Choates, nominated him for his leadership, commitment to his heritage, and work mentoring and creating opportunities for younger Latino students and others throughout the Lewis community. Lucas was recognized on the field at the September 27th Washington Commanders game.

And our Lancers continue to shine outside the classroom, too -congratulations to our Flag Football team on a historic and BIG win this week!
