SEL Screener Survey- Coming Soon

Hello Parents!

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) believes in supporting social and emotional learning (SEL) for all students.  In FCPS, students use a tool called the SEL Screener to think about their own SEL skills and experiences at school. Students in grades 3-5th  will be participating in the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in the Fall and Spring. Our Spring Date is scheduled for October 21st, 2026.

After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information about the SEL Screener please visit FCPS’  Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.  You can also contact our school counselors, Ms. Fajardo and Ms. Giardina for any additional questions.  Thank You for your support with our students’ socio-emotional wellness.

Plan Ahead: 3 Hour Early Release Days

October 21, 3-Hour Early Release

To help our 3-hour early release dismissal run as smoothly and safely as possible, we kindly ask families to plan ahead for any changes to their child’s usual dismissal routine. Whether your child will be riding home with another family, joining a different Kiss and Ride pickup, or has another change in plans, please notify the main office by the Monday before the early release day. Early release days are especially busy, and receiving changes in advance gives our staff time to make sure every student gets home safely and as planned. Thank you for helping us make dismissal safe, organized, and smooth for everyone!

For Military and Foreign Service Families

As a Purple Star School, Navy Elementary is committed to supporting families of our Military, State Department, and other Foreign Service families. We hope you are planning to join us at our Purple Star Pizza Party on October 9th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We’ll meet new families, provide support resources, and exchange information to ensure that the Navy experience is positive, welcoming, and supportive for you and your family.

If you are returning to Navy, we are especially interested to know where we can improve, and what would have made your experience even better! We’d also like to know if you would be willing to become a “Social Sponsor” for our new military and foreign service families arriving from out of state or overseas service - the idea here is to become a point of contact to provide resources and information to ease the transition into Navy and the larger community.

Need more information or have questions?  Please contact one of the co-chairs of the Purple Star Committee:

Alicia Walsh (awalsh1@fcps.edu),

Maryn Simon (mcsimon@fcps.edu) or

Debbie Borello (drborello@fcps.edu).

We are thrilled that you are at Navy and are eager to make your experience meaningful and happy!

Hispanic Heritage- Week 3!

Image of teacher in front of class showing slides for hispanic heritage month

Navy familias,

This week we focused on musica and geografia of several Spanish speaking countries.

We also had the pleasure and honor of our FLES leader, Karina Prudencio, as a speaker where she was able to share about Bolivia and some of their wonders. Students got to play Bolivian instruments, make connections, and be global learners.

Gracias, Sra. Prudencio!
