Happy Friday, Wildcat Families!

As we wrap up Week 6, we want to share a quick update and extend our appreciation to our incredible families.  Thank you all so much for being with us last Friday for our Hispanic Heritage Festival.  It was such a good time, and we are thrilled so many of you were able to make it and celebrate this wonderful culture.

This week also marked our very first Early Release Wednesday (ERW) of the school year. Thank you for your partnership and flexibility as we adjusted our schedule to support ongoing professional learning and collaboration for our staff.

Our teachers and students have been hard at work, and first-quarter interims for Grades 1-6 are going home next Thursday!  So please be on the lookout for them. We also welcomed regional visitors into our classrooms this week, and we couldn't be prouder of the engagement, effort, and growth our students show every single day.

Thank you for your continued support in making our school a wonderful place to learn and grow together. We hope you all have a relaxing and wonderful weekend!

Together We Grow,

Ms. Chianetta and Ms. Dauberman

Woodburn Happenings and Highlights

Farewell Ms. Dekraker

Join us in wishing farewell and best wishes to Ms. Dekraker. Ms Dekraker joined us in May as Acting Assistant Principal and made such a meaningful impact on our school community. She showed kindness, care and steady support during her time with us over the past four months. We will certainly miss her in our halls!

Our school has dedicated the book "The Rabbit Listened" to Ms. Dekraker because it reminds us that sometimes the best kind of leadership is simply being there. Her calm, steady, and caring presence made every Wildcat feel heard, supported, and safe.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Festival

What a joyful evening of culture, connection, and community! Hispanic Heritage Festival brought families together to celebrate the traditions, stories, and cultures of Spanish-speaking communities. Sharing these experiences gives us a chance to learn from one another and appreciate the many cultures that make our community special.

A big thank-you to our PTA for organizing the event and to everyone who helped make the evening memorable. We hope you enjoy these highlights from the celebration!

Traffic Safety Near Our School

We understand that families may need to drive their children to school from time to time. If you need to, please familiarize yourself with our school’s kiss-and-ride procedures for the safety of all children and staff.

Please drop off or pick up your students in the designated areas. Students should not be dropped off or picked up in other areas around the school or in nearby neighborhoods. Please also avoid parking in neighborhoods or double parking in front of our school if you intend to walk your child to school. This can increase the number of students walking through busy intersections and create traffic hazards for other drivers and families trying to get to school.

Please follow all signs and directions posted at our school, on public roads, or provided by school staff or crossing guards, and avoid making U-turns. Most of all, always — ALWAYS — drive slowly near our school. The safety of all our students is one of our top priorities!!

The Fairfax County Police Department has additional safety tips for families, including ways to keep walkers safe and what to do about scooters, bicycles, and e-scooters.
