The Herndon Girls Volleyball program is in its fourth year supporting the national Spike Out Cancer movement. The program is an opportunity to harness the talents and energy of our exceptional program and players, and the strength and spirit of the Herndon community, to make a difference for those fighting cancer. We want to honor the lives lost to cancer, celebrate survivors, and support the caregivers who so selflessly help others. Please consider supporting our goal of $8,000 contributed directly to the American Cancer Society by making a donation.

Go Hornets! Spike Out Cancer!

Athletes of The Week

Congratulations to the following athletes for earning AOTW for the week of September 21st!

anna

ANNA DISHER - Freshman Volleyball

Anna is the driving force behind much of our team's success. Her leadership, fearless play and relentless energy, whether serving, passing or hitting set an example for the entire team in practice and in games.  She truly makes everyone around her better.

patrick

PATRICK QUINN - Varsity Football

This week’s player of the week is a student athlete who practiced all week without making excuses. He battled through sickness, weather and other factors to make it all a full week of practice. The coaching staff recognizes how much the program means to you, and we all recognize your toughness, effort and tenacity.  Great job PQ!!

Reminders

Varsity Football Games *Weapons Screening

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is taking additional steps this year to help ensure that our athletic events remain safe for students, families, staff, and community members by introducing  security screenings of all spectators at our varsity football games.

We will be using the existing weapons screening systems that our students pass through every morning in our schools. In addition, we will be implementing a standardized bag policy to help support a smooth and efficient entry process. Students, family members, and all spectators are reminded that the following items are prohibited:

  • Backpacks
  • Purse
  • Fanny pack
  • Tote bags
  • Outside food and beverage
  • Sporting equipment (balls, bats, sticks, etc.)
  • Any item prohibited by FCPS policy, or determined by event staff to present safety concerns

Approved bags are limited to:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl, or pvc bags no larger than 12”6”x12”
  • Small clutch bag no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”
  • Medical and diaper bags permitted but subject to inspection

As a reminder, middle-school students and younger, must be accompanied by a responsible adult who remains with the student(s) at the event.
