Irving 8th graders learn personal finance and budgeting during their Finance Park field trip.
Good afternoon, Irving Community,
This past week, we recognized military-connected families who are new to our community, our eighth-grade students participated in JA Finance Park, and we celebrated our incredible custodial team in honor of Custodian Appreciation Day!
We are now just past the halfway point of the first quarter. Please spend some time with your student reviewing their current academic progress in SIS ParentVUE or SIS StudentVUE. Students may have opportunities to complete missing assignments, prepare for upcoming assessments, or coordinate with teachers about reassessments. Course materials and resources are available on your student’s Schoology pages.
If you have questions about an assignment or grade, please contact the classroom teacher directly through email or TalkingPoints. Students should also be strategic in using “Just in Time” support during Advisory on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The first quarter ends on October 30. We appreciate your partnership in helping your student make a plan for a successful end to the quarter!
With appreciation,
Emily Cincinnati
Principal

PTA Meeting: Parent Education Session
When: October 14, 6:30 PM -7:30
Where: Irving Library
Topic: The Science of Growing Up: Supporting Emotional Development During the Teen Years
The WIMS PTA and Counselors are delighted to welcome Laura Waller, MS, LPC, NCC, ADHD-CCSP, to discuss our students' emotional development. Laura is a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor. Laura owns Connected Care Counseling in Springfield, VA. This is an in-person event.
From around age ten through the teen years, the brain transforms in ways that shape how students think, feel, and connect. This session unpacks what’s happening beneath the surface—and why emotions can run high during this stage. By understanding these changes, parents can proactively build emotional literacy and support their teen's growing emotional awareness. Parents and caregivers will walk away from this program with practical tips and strategies to strengthen connection, communication, and confidence through the teen years.

Safe Routes to School Parent and Caregiver Survey
As part of the Fairfax County School Board’s Annual School-Based Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are inviting parents and caregivers to share their experiences traveling to and from school.
The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss and ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.
Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.
Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact |
