Dear Educator,

As the fall semester picks up and the midterm elections approach, students are asking big questions about the United States’ role in the world and about how to separate fact from noise online. CFR has several upcoming events to help you and your students dig into those questions, whether you teach high school or higher education.

Opportunities for High School Educators

Teaching Global Civics in a Digital Age

Monday, November 9

7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (EST)

Students are forming civic identities in a digital environment shaped by global events, misinformation, and rapidly evolving technologies. Yet the education landscape often treats global affairs, civics, and digital literacy as separate areas of study, leaving students without the knowledge, skills, and perspective they need to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.

Join leaders from the Digital Inquiry Group and CFR Education for a conversation about how educators across disciplines can help students navigate the global and digital realities shaping civic life today.

War at Home: Teaching WWI Through Espionage and Pandemic

Wednesday, November 4

7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (EST)

Join the National Council for History Education and CFR Education for a webinar that will explore how World War I shaped everyday life in the United States. Participants will dive into two CFR Education simulations, the Zimmerman Telegram in 1917 and Influenza and War in 1918, that put students in the role of decision-makers facing national security threats and public health crises. Along the way, students practice weighing evidence, considering competing perspectives, and connecting the past to the issues they see in the news today.
