October is off to a wonderful start! The weather during the week has been beautiful, the leaves are beginning to change, and we are enjoying all that fall has to offer - like our Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day!
We are excited to share that Lemon Road Elementary School is recognized as Distinguished under Virginia’s School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF) for the second year in a row. We also earned the Virginia Department of Education Purple Star Designation for the 2026-27 school year! Lemon Road will be recognized at the November 12 School Board Meeting. We are proud of each of these accomplishments.
Thank you to all the families who have signed up to meet with their child's teacher for parent-teacher conferences. These conversations are a meaningful opportunity to celebrate student growth, discuss progress, and continue strengthening the partnership between home and school. We value the opportunity to work together to support each child's success!
Last week we had a patrol meeting and recognized our first Patrol of the Month - congratulations! We inducted our SCA Officers and Classroom Representatives, and the field trips continued.
Remember that tomorrow is a Teacher Workday and a Student Holiday for Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We will see everyone back at Lemon Road on Tuesday. As always, thank you for your continued partnership and for all you do to make Lemon Road a special place to work, learn and play.
FCPS Safe Routes to School is excited to invite families to try SafeWalkr, a new interactive walking map tool developed by Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology students in collaboration with our team!
If you live within Lemon Road's designated walking boundary, explore information about sidewalks, road crossings, and crossing guard locations to help plan your walk to school.
Go to the SafeWalkr tool, select Lemon Road, and explore a route with your child. Review current conditions and consider your child’s abilities and supervision needs before walking. The tool does not change walking boundaries or transportation eligibility. Help us improve SafeWalkr by sharing your feedback during the pilot. Thank you for supporting safe, active trips to school!
The first big Eco Defense event of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14. This is a Free Swap - an opportunity for any member of our community to clear out your closets, libraries, costume collections and toy bins. Items can be collected during dismissal through 4:15 in the cafeteria. Then, staff, families and community members may shop (no cost – all free) and take home “new to you” items from 4:15 PM – 5:00 PM. Come by the cafeteria after school on Wednesday!
A swap is an effort to reduce excess spending while decreasing items often thrown away and filling our landfills. Thank you for supporting our SWAP!
We are excited to welcome veterans and members of the US Military to Lemon Road Elementary School on Wednesday, November 11th, to celebrate you and your service to our country. We will begin with a light breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the cafeteria followed by classroom visits to share your stories and/or to read a book. To ensure a smooth plan for the day we are kindly requesting some information from you in this Veterans Day Breakfast Google form if you are planning on joining.
Our PTA is hard at work. Thank you Room Parents for helping ensure all students have a polo for their fall field trips. Here are current PTA initiatives:
-
Donate your gently used coats and winter gear: For the entire month of October, the PTA is collecting gently used coats and winter gear of any size. The coats are washed and then exchanged with other local schools to ensure all kids have warm gear for the winter.
-
October PTA Meeting: Mark your calendars for our October meeting on Wednesday, October 14. Guest Speaker will be Mrs. Taylor Argue Learn about FCPS’s continuum of Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services for K - 6 students. Minutes from the last meeting and the meeting slides are available on the PTA website.
-
Restaurant Night: Our next restaurant night is at Plaka Grill on October 20 from 11 AM - 9 PM.
-
Movie Night: October 23 is the next movie night! The voting opens October 12 for Minons & Monsters, Toy Story 5 or Wild Robot. Please sign up to help with concessions or donate items.
-
Mabel's Labels: As the weather gets cooler, the number of jackets left behind in lost and found grows! The PTA has partnered with Mabel's Labels to help you get quality labels for your kids items! Just enter in Lemon Road PTA in the search bar.
We Need YOU: Joining the PTA is a key indicator that you support the school-home partnership that we foster. Email lemonroadpta@gmail.com to get involved!
