Principal's Message

Hello Langley Families,

I wanted to share a few pictures from our Homecoming Dance; our kids did a great job. It was a nice way to cap off a fun week.

We have noticed an uptick in late arrivals. I understand that mornings are difficult with traffic, our location, and sometimes weather. That said, if you are dropping your student off, please leave home with plenty of time to arrive on time, or, if you have a Senior, ask them to leave 5 minutes earlier. Classes begin at 8:10. One of my favorite parts of the day is greeting students and parents outside in the mornings. Thank you to folks who use the kiss and ride each morning; it makes a difference in our traffic flow and keeps our kids safe.

A reminder: tomorrow is a School Planning Day, a holiday for students.

Mr. Stroud

College Visits

LHS will be hosting college and university admission representatives for information sessions for junior and senior students. The complete and the most up to date list of visits is available in Naviance; a weekly list will be shared on the Class of 2027 and Class of 2028 Schoology pages as well as through News You Choose.

These visits are for students only and require a signed pass from their teacher to attend; passes are available outside of the Career Center. Attending class should be the priority, students should not miss a test, quiz, or presentation to attend a visit. If students cannot attend, they can contact Ms. Burke for the admission representative's contact information.

Attendance Reporting

Your student’s safety is our priority. Following these procedures will help keep the students safe.

Full Day Absences

We highly encourage all our families to use Parent VUE for full-day absences.  Reports submitted through Parent VUE are securely sent to the attendance office and do not require a follow-up email or call.

Late Arrival or Early Dismissal

Emails related to early dismissal and/or late arrival must be sent prior to 10:00 a.m. with at least two hours before the dismissal time to langleyhsattendance@fcps.edu

  • Remind your student to pick up an early dismissal pass from the Attendance Office that morning.
  • Your student should present the pass to the teacher to be excused from class and then check out at the attendance office.

Checking Out a Student Without a Note or a Sent Email to the Attendance Office by 10:00 a.m.: If your student does not have a written note, or the parent has not sent an email to the Attendance Office

  • A parent or guardian must come into the building and sign them out at the Attendance Office.
  • Provide a photo ID for verification.
  • Please allow up to 30 minutes for the checkout process if it is not prearranged.
  • If you are picking up your student from the health room you will need to sign in at the main office before you proceed to the health room. Provide a photo ID for verification

Wellness Screening

Mental health problems can develop in adolescence which is full of emotions for teens. Some of these emotions are actually mental illnesses. Depression is among the most common mental illnesses. Depression is treatable; however, it is a leading risk factor for suicide. To proactively address mental illness, Langley High School is providing a mental wellness screening and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention Program.  Junior Parents were emailed on Thursday, July 30th with additional information regarding this program.   Freshman and Sophomores parents will receive more information in the coming weeks.

Transportation Survey

  • Share Your Feedback on Traveling to and From School

The FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are asking families to share their experiences traveling to and from their child’s school. The feedback will help inform the Fairfax County School Board’s annual assessment of traffic and pedestrian safety near schools.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss-and-ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.

Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.
