How the Hip got back again
One of the first phone calls Jake Gold made after being rehired as The Tragically Hip’s manager back in 2020 was to friend Jeff Jones. Jones, who headed the U.S. marketing campaign for the band’s first two albums, has since become the CEO of Apple Corp. He oversaw the repackaging and remastering of The Beatles for the digital world, so he knows a thing or two about fortifying a band’s legacy. It’s a similar task Gold faced with the Hip. When Gold called Jones, he asked, “If you give me one piece of advice, what would it be?”
“First, figure out what you’ve got, then you’ll know what to do with it,” Jones told him. |
