Ozempic (semaglutide) activates receptors that help control blood sugar and insulin levels. It also slows down how quickly food moves through your stomach, helping to curb appetite. While this can aid weight loss, the effects tend to be moderate, with research showing an average weight loss of about 6–7 pounds over a year.
Additionally, Ozempic requires a lifelong commitment. A 2022 randomized controlled trial found that a year after discontinuing semaglutide, participants regained two-thirds of the weight they had lost. So it isn’t a quick fix for long-lasting weight loss.
