Welcome back to Your Midday Sun where coffee drinkers in Canada can get a decent cup for anywhere from $2 to about $8, depending on all the bells and whistles that come with it. That higher-end number sounds atrocious in itself but over in Scotland, a farm is selling the U.K.'s — and possibly the world's? — priciest cup of coffee. A flat white — that would be a double shot of espresso topped with a layer of steamed milk and a fleeting work of foam art — from a Scottish farm costs $480 (or 272 pounds). But it's all for the greater good, apparently.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defence minister and Hamas officials, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity over the war in Gaza and the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks that triggered Israel’s offensive in the Palestinian territory. Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders have condemned ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan’s request for warrants as disgraceful and antisemitic, while U.S. President Joe Biden also blasted the prosecutor and expressed support for Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas. Hamas also slammed the request.
This comes as local health officials said the death toll in the Gaza Strip from the 13-month-old war has surpassed 44,000, and while the count does not distinguish between civilians and combatants, the Gaza Health Ministry said more than half of the fatalities are women and children.

Canadians are getting early Christmas gift from the federal government this year.
Starting Dec. 14, Justin Trudeau announced the feds will enact a two-month exemption period on GST from all groceries, sit-down and take-out restaurant meals, beer and wine, children’s clothing and toys and diapers, Bryan Passifiume reports.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is taking credit for the move, saying the announcement aligns with his calls for tax relief.

Premier Doug Ford doubled down on his stance on why free trade needs to be fair, and told reporters that he has spoken to premiers across the country and they are unanimous in wanting to cut Mexico out of NAFTA to protect Canadian jobs. As Brian Lilley noted, the Trudeau government would be wise to lean on Ford in dealing with the incoming Trump administration. In dealing with President-elect Donald Trump, Ford is in a stronger position than Trudeau and represents the province that would be the third largest trading partner of the Americans if Ontario were its own country.
