In the final hours of December 18, 1813, some 500 British soldiers as well as some 500 militia and Indians—crossed the Niagara River from Canada determined to seize Old Fort Niagara on the opposite shore in New York. By sunrise on December 19, the British were victorious and America’s Niagara frontier lay open to attack. Continue reading.

This position serves as a Research Librarian in the Congressional Research Service (CRS). The incumbent analyzes and solves complex research problems within specialized policy research areas. Factors that affect the complexity of a request include its novelty, the difficulty in locating authoritative information, and the specialized nature of the subject area, etc. Responds to congressional and internal requests for information related to complex issues requiring in-depth knowledge of the context/background of the issue; and congressional and internal requests related to information that is difficult to find and/or requires filtering/synthesis. Using specialized knowledge, prepares complex responses to inquiries. Develops and executes research methodologies for specialized topics and for complex topics. The incumbent develops and maintains knowledge of research resources; identifies, tests, and evaluates new specialized research resources; performs market analyses on competing resources; and recommends specialized information resources and research materials for purchase or renewal. Provides orientation and training/instruction to congressional clients, colleagues and peers on research methods and research resources.
