My mother and I had recently returned to live in south Mississippi amid our extended family. We had been invited to join one of the adult boys and his family for Christmas. It would be a group of about ten ranging from toddlers to young adults, middle-aged adults and senior citizens, the perfect Christmas mix.
With full stomachs and contented hearts, we watched the children play with their new toys and kept half an eye on the football game airing on the big screen in the living room.
