Come join us for nature fun and enrichment. Program costs are $0-$10. Learn something new, bring friends and enjoy the nature of Arlington.

Tiny Tots & Pre-K Programs

Tiny Tots
Ages 18 to 35 months. Each program will engage your child with hands-on learning and may include a variety of activities like songs, crafts, and mini-hikes. Themes repeat so please register for only one program at each center per month. Caregivers must stay with their child during the program. $6.

Preschool Nature Explorers 
Ages 3 to 5. Preschoolers can actively explore their natural world with programs that build the foundation for a lifetime of wonder, appreciation and discovery. Hands-on interactive learning, mini hikes and nature play provide a fun and engaging experience for children. Caregivers must stay with their child during the program. $6.

Preschool Special: Lost in the Woods
Ages 0 to 5. Join us for a special presentation by the Wildlife Rescue League as we read the book “Lost in the Woods” and learn about the woodland animals checking in on a baby deer. Is this baby deer lost? His wildlife friends want to know. Together we'll all learn how to be safe. $6.

Park Volunteering
Teens ages 12 to 17. Help us with improving Glencarlyn Park. Each Sunday we will have hands-on projects like weed pulling, raking, trail maintenance and trash pick-up. Your hard work will make the park a better place for both people and nature. Free.

Powhatan People
Ever wonder how people lived off the land in the mid-Atlantic? Come learn about the Powhatan people who made Virginia their home. We'll learn what language they spoke, the foods they ate, the clothes they wore and how they survived. $6.

Women’s Outdoor Skill Workshop
Outdoor skills like fire-starting, archery, hiking safety and leave-no-trace are presented in an inclusive, fun workshop geared towards women and girls. All are welcome, open to those with zero experience or seasoned outdoor women. Teens age 13 and up are welcome to attend with a registered adult. $12.

Join us for a presentation on the different species of evergreens the can be found through the mid-Atlantic and right here in Arlington. We'll learn how to identify them by their needles, barks, seeds and other factors. $6.

Daily H.A.M.s (Holiday Animal Meetups)
Take a break from the holiday rush to just sit down and enjoy meeting some of our local nature center animals. Each day, a naturalist will share stories, tales and offer direct encounters with 2 different live or preserved animal friends. Just show up in our classroom and enjoy learning about local wildlife. Adults must attend with children.

Winter Birding Hike
Some of the best times to identify birds is when the trees have no leaves and there aren't any obstacles in the way of your view! In this hike we will learn about our resident birds that stay with us year-round. Dress for the weather. We will provide binoculars, but you can bring your own. Free.

Paint Tree Cookies
Sliced up tree branches are tree cookies (non-edible), which are great for crafting! Join us to make your best artwork and designs on tree cookies while enjoying music. $6.

Fort CF Smith Park Walking Tour
Fort C.F. Smith was one of the last Union forts built to protect Washington during the Civil War. We'll learn about the park's history, the role of the fort and the soldiers stationed there in the Civil War. Free.

Family Campfires
The whole family is invited to join us for lots of old-fashioned fun. These engaging programs will be filled with entertaining activities that may include stories, special animal guests, games, songs and of course, S’mores! (We will provide the marshmallows, chocolate & graham crackers). $6.

R.I.P. - Remove Invasive Plants at Gulf Branch!
Adults, teens and families ages 8 and up. Want to restore habitat and increase species diversity right here in Arlington? Work parties are held every month at over a dozen parks. We are making a real difference, with the return of ferns and wildflowers, and the animals that depend on them, in areas once covered in destructive invasive plants. Flying Squirrel Lore
Flying squirrels are found throughout the wooded neighborhoods of Arlington, but are seldom seen. Join us to learn about these nocturnal rodents in our classroom, then see wild flying squirrels outdoors. Dress for the weather, it can become very cold. $6.

Full Moon Salamander Search
Explore the park at night when the moon is full! We will search for salamanders along Long Branch Creek. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight if you have one! Event will take place rain or moon-shine! $6.
