Panama President José Raúl Mulino rebuffed Donald Trump’s threat to reimpose US control over the Panama Canal, saying its shipping tolls aren’t inflated and that its sovereignty isn’t negotiable. The euro-area economy will grow just 1% next year, according to a Bloomberg survey, lower than an earlier estimate of 1.2%. The outlook for 2026 was also cut. Meanwhile European tariffs are having an impact in keeping out Chinese-made electric vehicles.

French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou is struggling to meet his self-imposed deadline to name a new cabinet before the Christmas holidays. A new team was expected to be unveiled over the weekend but French media now say it may be announced today at the earliest.
