Thinking Big: How A Nationwide Approach Strengthens Agricultural Research

This month, ARS ecologist David Hoover discusses the Long-Term Agroecosystem Research Network (LTAR), which was formed to conduct long-term research on tools and practices for resilient and sustainable agriculture.

The network—consisting of hundreds of scientists and technicians across 18 sites—allows scientists to leverage shared resources, scientific expertise, and long research histories to develop new knowledge and innovations. Learn more.

The Agricultural Research Service is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's chief scientific in-house research agency. Daily, ARS focuses on solutions to agricultural problems affecting America. Each dollar invested in U.S. agricultural research results in $20 of economic impact.
