NEH’s Office of Digital Humanities is excited to announce a new partnership with the United Kingdom’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) for joint U.S.-U.K. projects undertaking humanities research on the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI. This program builds upon two existing grant programs—AHRC’s Bridging Responsible AI Divides (BRAID) and NEH’s Dangers and Opportunities of Technology: Perspectives from the Humanities (DOT).
Through this new opportunity, which will use a lead agency model, U.S. and U.K. researchers will submit a collaborative proposal to AHRC that will undergo a single review process. Successful projects will receive two awards: one from AHRC for U.K.-based researchers and one from NEH for U.S.-based scholars.
Projects must focus their research on examining the societal impacts of AI from the perspective of the humanities or humanistic social sciences. NEH applicants may request up to $75,000 for projects with one U.S. project director, or up to $150,000 with two or more U.S. project directors.
