Dear Haycock Families,
It was great to have our students in school all five days last week!
This week looks to be a really chilly one! As a reminder, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing. We monitor and follow the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings that may prevent children from being outside for activities like recess or physical education. In all other cases, our students go outside for recess. Visit Fairfax County’s website for Winter Weather/Extreme Cold safety tips.
We look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow evening, Tuesday, January 21st for our winter band concert at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. Our students have been practicing and preparing diligently to show you all they have learned tomorrow evening.

When Should You Keep Your Child Home?
As we enter into the depths of the winter and the height of virus season, we wanted to share with you the guidance from FCPS and the health department. We want your child in school unless one of the conditions exists that might lead to the transfer of viruses or other sickness. Please see this document for further guidance.
Often, students are sent home from the Haycock health room with a fever. If your child has a fever of 100.4 or higher, keep them at home until his or her fever is below 100.4 for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. If the fever does not go away after 2-3 days or is 102.0 or higher, consult with a health care provider.

SR&R and Cell Phone Policy Survey Coming Soon
All FCPS families and middle and high school students will be receiving an email invitation on Tuesday, January 21, to participate in a survey about FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R), cell phone policy, and cell phone storage options. The survey will be available from January 21 to February 3. Please take a few moments to share your feedback and help FCPS make informed, inclusive decisions for all of our schools!
Kids Heart Challenge in February
Please consider donating to the Kids Heart Challenge this year by clicking on the link. Find our school, Haycock Elementary School, within the drop-down menu. Join our team. Create your login if you have not joined before. The last day to collect online donations will be Friday, February 14th at 9:00 a.m. After this date, any donations will not contribute to larger prizes or gift sets.
Our Kids Heart Challenge Event takes place during your child’s physical education class during the week of February 18th to February 21st. Your child does not have to fundraise in order to participate in the event.
We invite the grown-ups at home to join their children in their physical education classes the week of February 18th to February 21st to participate in the Kids Heart Challenge with their child. We hope to see you!
Please note that instant prizes will be distributed as quickly as possible to the students who have earned them. Larger prizes and gift sets will not be distributed until later this school year after all funds have been turned in online and the prizes have been shipped and sorted at Haycock. Thank you for your understanding of this.
