Good morning, DMV. It’s Tuesday, Jan. 21, and the temperatures continue to plunge. So I share the Going Out Guide’s list of places to warm up, including hot pot (yes, please!) and my new fave winter spot: a Korean spa in northern Virginia. I had my first Spa World experience a few weekends ago with friends and my 12-year-old daughter, and for the hours we were there, it felt like we were on the other side of the world — maybe in Asia, maybe at a hammam in Turkey. There is the tiled room of steaming baths (where nudity is the norm, but bathing suits are fine). There are dry sauna rooms, one of which my friend calls the “pizza oven” where she imagines herself as a “personal pan pizza.” For our spa lunch, we had boba tea and dumplings — my daughter’s ideal meal. In the warmth, surrounded by people and families seeking relaxation, we escaped. And it’s beckoning me again. ☁️ Capital Weather Gang daily digit: 1/10. Arctic agony with mostly cloudy skies.
