The Future
With a second Trump presidency upon us and the fate of TikTok still uncertain, questions surround the book business as it marches into 2025 and beyond. Our reporting seeks to provide some answers, as do Independent Book Publishers Association CEO Andrea Fleck-Nisbet and the Swiss-based Alpine Global Collective, a consulting group with its finger on the pulse of international publishing. In distribution news, Diamond Comic Distributors’ debtor-in-possession refinancing has been approved, and CLMP is awarding $285,000 in grants to publishers affected by the collapse of Small Press Distribution last year. Yahoo! Finance reports the latest news on Trump’s threatened tariffs, and Book Riot details the latest on book bans in an Idaho public library. Forbes highlights YA author Veronica Bane’s book drive for Los Angeles–area teachers impacted by this month’s wildfires. The U.S. Postal Service is rolling out a Goodnight Moon stamp this year, and Netflix is readying to bring Greta Gerwig’s Narnia series adaptation to theaters, per Puck. The New York Times highlights the ongoing African publishing renaissance. And comics creators Arthur Nichols and the great Jules Feiffer have died at 63 and 95, respectively.
